The Shabby Nest
Welcome to my nest! I am a lover of photography, handmade trinkets, running, cooking, crafting, finding a cozy corner to curl up and read a good book and writing. I am attempting to slow down and savor life a bit more which is often a challenge with 11 month old twins! Come along with me as I attempt to re-connect to the simpler things in life and create a sweet little home with as many handmade treasures and delicious recipes as I can find, borrow or create!

Crafting Adventures
Here are my latest crafting adventures:
I get a summer picnic/grandma's pretty fabric napkin vibe from this creation..very cozy, homey and pretty hung up on my new lovely key hanger found here: http://www.etsy.com/people/OldNewAgain
The embroidery hoop was a random idea I had and thought I would try. I found the lovely shabby chic inspired fabric in the discounted scrap bin at Hobby Lobby!!

Burlap!!
My newest love is burlap. Side note: burlap is extremely messy to work with! When I was making this wreath, I covered the floor with newspapers and still had to vacuum several times and change my clothes! It comes off in little pieces and also leaves a fuzzy mess on any cloth material. However, burlap gives a project a very "homey" feel. Watch out for hot glue burns when working with it.. the glue loves to seep up through the little holes!! For this project, I bought a straw wreath (very cheap at Hobby Lobby) and cut 3" strips of burlap and wrapped /glued them around the wreath in a random pattern. I then hot glued the lace doily and added my favorite white and pink felt flowers. I decided the wreath needed another "vintagey" look, so I added some little wooden peg buttons attached to felt. I love it!!- a very shabby chic, vintage inspired wreath. Have I mentioned I'm obsessed with wreaths?!?! I practically have a different wreath every week for my door!! Eventually, I want to start documenting the process of creating but I haven't found the time to grab my camera mid crafting! Thanks for stopping by!!

Embroidery Hoop
Tonight I completed another embroidery hoop. This little mixed media number features fuschia and purple felt flowers attached to burlap material and hand embroidered stems. I plan on propping this little sassy number on my bookshelf where plenty of boring textbooks need a pop of color infused into their dull lives. I will also be selling replicas of this original in my Esty Shop. Yay.. another lovely craft complete!!

Weekend Crafts
I completed a small 5" yarn wreath and an embroidery hoop in the wee Saturday and Sunday evening hours. I also am loving completed embroidery hoops used as decoration in a small space. You can hang one up individually or group a few together to make a cute artsy look for your wall.
